Duke Arts Presents

Ranky Tanky

Saturday, October 24 - Friday, October 30, 2020

Performing music steeped in Gullah culture, Ranky Tanky, the GRAMMY Award-winning quintet from Charleston, South Carolina, brings their timeless sound to Duke Performances for a virtual residency, culminating in an October 24 performance filmed for Duke and Durham audiences.

During their residency, founding members Clay Ross (guitar/vocals) and Charlton Singleton (trumpet/vocals) will visit the high school jazz band and middle school band classes at Durham School of the Arts. They will also join Duke professor Laurent Dubois for a virtual conversation exploring the ways both their music and performance draw inspiration from the living Gullah traditions of the Lowcountry. Ranky Tanky’s performance film will be part of our virtual field trip series for Durham Public Schools.
