The Belgian vocal and instrumental ensemble Vox Luminis is firmly established as one of the great choirs of the world. Now having cemented their reputation with a remarkable second Gramophone award in 2019, Vox Luminis tours and records at a remarkable clip, displaying the expertise of the choir and of its director, Lionel Meunier, with every performance. In November 2021, BBC’s classical-music.com included them in their list of the ten best choirs in the world.

For their third performance at Duke, Vox Luminis explore 17th-century Venice through the sacred music of Monteverdi. The “Moral and Spiritual Forest” was the last work Monteverdi saw published, and remains the primary testament to his three decades as the church choir master of San Marco. In their performance of excerpts from the three books, Vox Luminis highlight the synthesis of styles Monteverdi presents in the work, offering this expressive religious music in Duke Chapel.
