Traces: Address to African Nations by Senegalese economist, writer and Duke Romance Studies faculty member Felwine Sarr is a lyrical text that looks at the history of Africa through a new lens. The play explores the notion that Africa, as it emerges from its colonial past, can forge a new path for itself, inviting a restoration of meaning, a rehabilitation of the present, and a reopening of possibilities.
The text is captivatingly performed by inspiring and imaginative storyteller Étienne Minoungou, accompanied by musician Simon Winsé on the kora. Both artists are from Burkina Faso and will perform in French with English supertitles.
Traces brings Felwine Sarr’s philosophy to a younger African generation, emboldening them to build a new utopia. Witness Sarr’s vision of Africa taking its destiny in its own hands, sowing the seeds for a better future.
