To listen to Nobuntu is to experience joyous harmony that few performances can match. The world-renowned Zimbabwean female a cappella group sings and supports through traditional African folk songs, gospel, and soul jazz. Their voices are so in unison, their sound so pure, that only simple, measured percussion and the Mbira (a thumb piano) are needed to provide a gentle undertow.

Nobuntu, which takes its name from an African phrase that values humbleness, love, unity and family from a female lens, punctuates the show with “organic and authentic dance movement.”

Taken in full, it’s no wonder why critics the world over celebrate this quintessential quintet.

The Sunday Times of Germany called Nobuntu’s show “a vibrant and stunning performance full of sparkling energy.”

The Sarasota Herald-Tribune championed the group’s “rich voices and exhilarating rhythms.”

Back home, the Sunday News of Zimbabwe hailed the group as, “‘much adored … and breathtaking.”
