In Conversation: Alonzo King

Born in Georgia to Civil Rights activists, choreographer Alonzo King planted his pathbreaking ballet company, LINES, in San Francisco in the early 1980s. At Duke, he joins professor Thomas F. DeFrantz (Duke Dance and African and African-American Studies) for a wide-ranging discussion touching on his career, artistic process, and the dynamics of race and representation at play in his work — and in contemporary ballet more broadly.
