Join acclaimed choreographer and Mark Morris alum John Heginbotham (Dance Heginbotham) for a dance class designed to benefit those with Parkinson’s disease. The class is offered in collaboration with American Dance Festival (ADF) as part of its new Parkinson’s Movement Initiative and assumes no formal training in dance. First-time participants welcome!

In Dance for PD® classes, participants are empowered to explore movement and music in ways that are refreshing, enjoyable, stimulating and creative. Evidence from 38 peer-reviewed scientific studies serves to underpin the effectiveness and benefits of the Dance for PD teaching practice. Learn more about the organization HERE.

John Heginbotham was a member of the Mark Morris Dance Group from 1998 to 2012. In 2011, he founded Dance Heginbotham, a Brooklyn-based performance group devoted to the presentation of his dance and theatrical work. He is also active as a freelance choreographer and educator; he is on the faculty of Dartmouth College and is a founding teacher of Dance for PD®. danceheginbotham.org

Heginbotham’s Principles of Uncertainty, an evening-length work of dance and theater inspired by Maira Kalman’s 2007 book, comes to Duke’s Reynolds Industries Theater on Friday, March 23 and Saturday, March 24. More information available HERE.

The Dance Heginbotham & Maira Kalman residency is made possible, in part, by a grant from South Arts in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts, & support from the Dance Program at Duke University. American Dance Festival is proud to offer Parkinson's Movement Initiative classes in partnership with NC Dance for Parkinson's and Poe Wellness Solutions and supported by a grant from the Parkinson's Foundation. Through funds raised by Moving Day® North Carolina, a walk for Parkinson's, all classes offered through the Parkinson's Movement Initiative are free for people living with PD and their caregivers.
