Ciompi Concert No. 1 featuring Eliot Fisk, Guitar

Saturday, September 29, 2012 | 8:00 pm

Nelson Music Room

The Ciompi Quartet opens the 2012/13 season with a blockbuster program of masterpieces spanning the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. The evening begins with one of Haydn’s late, great Op. 76 quartets, the Emperor. It concludes with the first of three famous Op. 59 quartets dedicated by Beethoven to the Russian Count Razumovsky, setting the table for the Beethoven/Razumovsky exploration in this year’s Lunchtime Classics series. In between, the Ciompi welcomes stellar American classical guitarist Eliot Fisk for a stirring performance of Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco’s beloved Guitar Quintet.

Program

HAYDN: String Quartet in C Major, Op. 76, No. 3, Emperor
CASTELNUOVO-TEDESCO: Quintet for Guitar and String Quartet, Op. 143 (w/ Eliot Fisk, guitar)
BEETHOVEN: String Quartet in F Major, Op. 59, No. 1, Razumovsky
