Duke Arts Presents

Brooklyn Rider

Saturday, September 11, 2010 | 8:00 pm

Reynolds Industries Theater

With an eclectic, imaginative repertory intended to mirror the polychrome diversity of their native borough, Brooklyn Rider—who travel with Yo-Yo Ma’s Silk Road Ensemble—have made it their mission to cross borders. But whether they are sharpening the cutting edge of new chamber repertory or finding new voices for established classics, they perform with consummate artistry, producing performances that are “energetic, finely detailed, technically polished, and interpretively insightful” (NY Times).

They open with arresting contemporary works and end their program with Schubert’s late masterpiece, the “Death and the Maiden” Quartet.

PROGRAM:
COLIN JACOBSEN: Achilles’ Heel
PHILIP GLASS: String Quartet No. 2, “Company”
GIOVANNI SOLLIMA: Federico II from “Viaggio in Italia”
SCHUBERT: String Quartet No. 14 in D Minor, “Death and the Maiden”
