Artemis with Jacques Ammon, piano

Saturday, April 28, 2012 | 8:00 pm

Reynolds Industries Theater

The Artemis Quartet spent a decade training with the Emerson and Juilliard Quartets before officially launching its career at the Berlin Philharmonie in 1999. Its patient, sharply honed playing “finds a balance between projecting musical structure and conveying immediacy” (NY Times).

Born in Santiago de Chile, pianist Jacques Ammon came to notice in 1989 by winning the International Claudio Arrau Piano Competition.

Ammon has also performed concerts with the cellist Eckard Runge from the Artemis Quartet for more than ten years. Through this collaboration, they have produced five CD recordings (Genuin Records).

Ammon was invited, by the 12 Cellists of the Berlin Philharmonic, to be music consultant and arranger for an EMI CD recording, which subsequently received a Grammy nomination and the ECHO Prize. In 2008 and 2009, Jacques Ammon was invited to play with the Artemis Quartet in major music centers across Europe. In 2009, this ensemble recorded the Piazzolla Project (VirginClassics/EMI).
