Artemis String Quartet

Saturday, March 13, 2010 | 9:00 pm

Reynolds Industries Theater

Founded in 1989, the Berlin-based Artemis Quartet is now among the most accomplished ensembles in the world — “original, atmospheric and intense” (Telegraph UK).  Having played to great acclaim in our 06-07 season, they return with an all-Beethoven program that includes the introverted middle-period “Serioso.”  It ends with opus 132, one of the most transcendental works ever composed for strings, featuring Beethoven’s hymn of thanksgiving after recovering from a serious illness.

“Ranging from Beethoven to Ligeti, their performances overflow with fullness of sound, delineated structure and unparalleled drama.”
— Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung
