Duke Arts Presents

Ballet Futures

Throughout the 2019/20 season, Duke Performances presents Ballet Futures, a yearlong programmatic focus on the present and future of ballet, featuring performances, community engagement events, and public conversations that seek to celebrate and reimagine the ballet idiom. Anchored by a series of discrete visits from five leading ballet companies — Alonzo King LINES Ballet, BalletX, American Ballet Theatre Studio Company with choreographer Stefanie Batten Bland, Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo (The Trocks), and American Ballet Theatre Main Company — Ballet Futures aims to facilitate a conversation of national significance around the issues most pressing to the the art form: diversity and racial equity; gender and representation; institutional power dynamics; and labor and funding infrastructures in dance.
