Durham is becoming a magnet for great musicians from all over, and Wisconsin native Nick Sanborn is one of the busiest of those transplants. It seems like Sanborn plays with every band in town: from Megafaun to The Love Language to Sylvan Esso — not to mention Milwaukee stalwarts Decibully and Collections of Colonies of Bees. Co-commissioned by Duke Performances and Alverno Presents, Nick Sanborn curated an evening of brilliant sidemen: Brad Cook and Joe Westerlund of Megafaun, Amelia Meath of Mountain Man and Sylvan Esso, Chris Porterfield of Field Report, Alexandra Sauser-Monnig of Mountain Man, and William Tyler of Lambchop and Silver Jews.
For two nights, Sanborn had the rare chance to gather all these exceptional musicians together in one place with his program, Lend Me Your Voice. One by one, he brought these collaborators and friends on stage, building a once-in-a-lifetime band. With the audience arranged in the round in the intimate space of Nelson Music Room, Sanborn traced the strands that make up a thriving, cross-country musical community.
