Nelson Music Room

1304 Campus Drive
Durham, NC 27708

Nelson Music Room is an intimate recital hall on Duke’s East Campus near East Main Street. It is located on the second floor the East Duke Building, which was completed in 1912, built of white pressed brick and Indiana sandstone and roofed with green tile. Nelson Music Room was originally the meeting place of the Columbian literary society, and was first used as a recital room in the 1930s due to its fine acoustics. With a capacity of 300, this elevator-accessible venue features a central performance area flanked by balconies on either side, with flexible seating on the floor level often configured in the round. Duke Performances often uses the Nelson Music Room for contemporary classical and classical concerts that call for an intimate venue.
