Music in the Gardens
Alice Gerrard & Rayna Gellert

Wednesday, July 8, 2015 | 7:00 pm

Sarah P. Duke Gardens

Fifty years into her career, bluegrass icon and longtime Durham resident Alice Gerrard’s voice has only become more clear and haunting. “Plaintive, yet as dignified as a rugged old oak, Gerrard’s loamy alto seems at times to emerge from a primordial mist,” declared The Washington Post. Gerrard earned a GRAMMY nomination for her latest album, Follow the Music, produced by MC Taylor of Hiss Golden Messenger. The exceptional fiddler and vocalist Rayna Gellert, of Swannanoa, NC, will join Gerrard at the Gardens. Gellert’s fiddle albums are widely celebrated in the old-time music community, and she has recorded with a host of musicians in a variety of styles including Robyn Hitchcock, Sara Watkins, Loudon Wainwright III, and Abigail Washburn.
Music in the Gardens concerts take place rain or shine on the lawn behind the Gardens’ Visitor Center. Lawn chairs, picnics, and blankets are encouraged. Dogs are not allowed. Outside food and beverages, including beer and wine, are permitted and also will be available for purchase on-site. The lawn will open at least 30 minutes prior to the start of the show.

Music in the Gardens presentations are excluded from Pick-Four discount.

Duke Performances’ Music in the Gardens is made possible, in part, with support from Duke Continuing Studies, Duke Summer Session, and the Sarah P. Duke Gardens.
