THE BILL FRISELL TRIO
THE DISFARMER PROJECT: MUSICAL PORTRAITS FROM HEBER SPRINGS
Saturday, 3/1/08, 8 pm
Reynolds Industries Theater
$38 • $32 • $5*
Between 1939 and 1945, the eccentric photographer who called himself Disfarmer created a series of portraits that captured the lives of rural Americans in the small mountain town of Heber Springs, Arkansas. Critics have hailed Disfarmer’s haunting portraits as “a classical episode in the history of American photography.” For this special Statements of Fact performance, guitarist and composer Bill Frisell responds to this evocative American archive, handling guitar for his original score while violinist Jenny Scheinman, steel guitarist Greg Leisz, and bassist Viktor Krauss provide backup provide backup. Images of Disfarmer’s post-Depression documents are projected on either side of the musicians as they play.
