THE CLASSICAL THEATRE OF HARLEM
SHAKESPEARE'S ROMEO & JULIET
Friday and Saturday, 11/9/07 and 11/10/07, 8 pm
Reynolds Industries Theater
$26 • $20 • $5*
This bold reinterpretation of Romeo and Juliet portrays the Shakespearean romance as a story of race and bloodshed in modern-day Harlem. Fresh from a premiere run in New York, the play turns West Indian and hip-hop tempos into a tragedy of unique physical force — “fast-moving, violent, and extremely modern,” says its director Christopher McElroen.
New York Times on the Classical Theatre of Harlem:
"If there is a more dauntless ensemble in New York than the Classical Theatre of Harlem, I don't know what it is."
