Born and trained in Cuba, Prieto is an Afro-Cuban drum phenomenon who’s also a masterful composer. His charts “explode with energy” (Sacramento Bee), and he handles his trap set with a technique that is “infernally complicated, and infernally precise” (NY Times). His driving, complex music twists folk motifs into a new kind of Latin rhythm.
