Music in the Gardens: Skylar Gudasz

Wednesday, June 15, 2016 | 7:00 pm

Sarah P. Duke Gardens

Please note: Since heavy lightning and thunderstorms are anticipated for Wednesday, June 15 (80% probability), we have moved the concert with Skylar Gudasz out of the Duke Gardens and over to Motorco Music Hall, located in Durham at 723 Rigsbee Avenue. We’ll open doors to the public at 6:15 PM and start the concert at 7 PM. We suggest that you arrive early to permit time for parking (click here for details on parking at Motorco). While Motorco does not permit outside food or drink, they do offer food and beverage service onsite. Additionally, outside chairs are not permitted in the venue; there is limited seating available in the space.

Durham-based singer-songwriter Skylar Gudasz became known for her utterly unique voice, showcased last year in Ari Picker’s Lion and the Lamb at Duke Performances. But everything changed this February when she released Oleander, “her astonishingly great debut album” (News and Observer). Produced by local musical godfather Chris Stamey, the album reveals Gudasz as an essential American artist in the tradition of Joni Mitchell and Aimee Mann. Delivering her wry, off-kilter lyrics in her unmistakably smoky croon, Skylar Gudasz is a local star poised to make a national name.
