Bluegrass mandolinist and singer Sierra Hull’s breakout album Weighted Mind went right to the top of Billboard’s bluegrass charts at the start of this year. The Chicago Tribune praised Hull’s “crystalline voice,” and PopMatters declared that her latest songs “showcase her magnificent strengths on the mandolin with rawness and verve.” The protégée of multiple GRAMMY-winner Alison Krauss, Hull was signed to Rounder Records at age thirteen, and later studied at Berklee College of Music. “She plays the mandolin with a degree of refined elegance and freedom that few have achieved,” says banjo master Béla Fleck, who produced her new album. Hull has moved from prodigy to pathbreaker, building on the bedrock of bluegrass tradition to create an innovative and personal new musical style.
