Duke Arts Presents

Rosanne Cash + Mark O’Connor

Thursday, April 15, 2010 | 8:00 pm

Page Auditorium

Rosanne Cash’s father picked cotton and listened to gospel in Dyess, Arkansas before becoming the Man in Black. He’s now the subject of a powerful collaboration, as the Grammy-winning Rosanne joins kingpin fiddler Mark O’Connor, CMA’s Musician of the Year 6 times running, in an evening of music inspired by Johnny Cash. As two heirs to Cash’s genius take the stage, the spirit of a dirt-heeled modernist breathes new.

Performing with Mr. O’Connor will be Joey “Arash” Amini on cello and Melissa Marse on piano.

Grammy winning composer and violin/fiddle virtuoso Mark O’Connor offers lecture demonstrations that inform, educate and entertain.  Widely and well known as one of America’s most inventive and innovative composers, Mark O’Connor discusses and demonstrates his American style of string playing, his improvisational abilities and the process of composition.

Appropriate for all ages, Mark’s appearances offer audiences a personal glimpse into the life of a musical artist who has often been called “genius.” Young musicians, particularly, will benefit from his warm and engaging interaction with his audiences.

“[Poets and Prophets] evokes the piercing directness and populism of Cash’s best work.”
