Duke Arts Presents

Ciompi Concert No. 4 featuring Ashley Bathgate, cello; James Tocco, piano

Saturday, April 20, 2013 | 8:00 pm

Nelson Music Room

In its final concert of the season, the Ciompi is joined by not one but two exceptional guest musicians. After the opening selection of Mozart’s first Prussian quartet, the stellar young cellist Ashley Bathgate, of Bang on a Can All-Stars fame, is enlisted to offer another world premiere: a new string quintet by Scott Lindroth, Duke Music professor and Vice Provost for the Arts. The Ciompi also brings back one of its favorite collaborators, the eminent pianist James Tocco, for a rare performance of George Enescu’s famously challenging Piano Quintet in A Minor, bringing this abundant 2012/13 season to a daring conclusion.

Program

SCOTT LINDROTH: String Quintet (world premiere; w/ Ashley Bathgate, cello)
