Serbian director Emir Kusturica’s mystical epic Time of the Gypsies tells the story of Perhan, the illegitimate son of a soldier and a Gypsy, as he transforms from a loyal, day-dreaming boy into a small-time criminal under the tutelage of Ahmed Djida, a kind of Gypsy godfather. Featuring a score by Goran Bregović, Time of the Gypsies is a rarely-screened masterpiece from one of Serbia’s most prominent directors.
Time of the Gypsies is rated R and runs 142 minutes.
Following the screening, Durham’s D-Town Brass will perform their rollicking jazz big band music. Using a variety of instruments and infused with an adventurous spirit, this fourteen-piece ensemble is sure to get you up dancing.
