Founded in 2007, this six-person company is already renowned for its dynamic, actor-focused style and lapidary productions of Shakespeare, whose elaborately plotted romance Cymbeline sings out with utter clarity in Fiasco’s capable hands. Over a swift-moving 150 minutes, with plenty of witty music and dynamic action, the “lucid, modest performances let the comedy, poignancy, and unlikely magic surface” (NY Times).
Sarah Beckwith is Professor of English and Theater Studies at Duke University where she works on late medieval religious writing, medieval and early modern drama, and ordinary language philosophy. Her book, Shakespeare and the Grammar of Forgiveness (Cornell University Press, 2011) traces the conversation on shifting religious conventions that occurred during the English Reformation. Through studying Shakepeare's post-tragic plays, including Cymbeline, Beckwith reveals Shakespeare’s profound understanding of the importance of language as the fragile basis of our relations with others.
